In this day and age, with all the iPhones, computers and tv shows at our finger tips it can be hard to take a moment to sit and relax. It is almost impossible to put down the cellphone and just take in what's going on around us. What I personally like to do, is take some time away from these devices to read a book, spend time with family or even have some quality time in the kitchen (baking can be very therapeutic!) Even though this favourite is still on one of these devices, it still can really soothe your mind and make you that much more aware of the present. These are eight apps that I use on a daily basis to relax my mind and focus on myself for a bit.

The apps called Lumosity and Fit Brains make you play 3-5 games a day to work parts of your brain that you may not have given some attention throughout the day. These games are both simple and fun, but you do need to focus or else you won't get the benefits out of it. I like to use both apps although they are similar, just for the different games and different feels they have.

The MindShift app gives you tools and ways to deal with anxiety. It has a journal as well as reasons and ways to deal with issues you are having. I don't think I have given this app enough love, but I definitely will start using it as much as I use the others!

Headspace and Seven are to work the body and the mind. Seven requires you to do a full body work out for seven minutes. It motivates me to get out of bed and doing something when I don't want to, but it also ensures that I am keeping my body where it should be and allows me to set goals for myself. Headspace allows you have some meditation time, I prefer to do this before bed when it's quiet. This app encourage you to do it when you in the middle of your busy day so you can relax and control your thoughts. I really love this because it forces you to accept quiet and personal time.

Elevate is an app that let's you exercise some tools you may not have used in a while. With spellcheck and Google at our fingertips it can be easy to overlook daily grammar, math and all those simple skills we learned in elementary school. As you can see in the photo above, the apps has games to play involving Reading Comprehension, Spelling, Writing and Math like I said. I love this app because it makes me realize how I take advantage of the internet and how it does everything so automatically. I love reviving my mind of all it's capabilities - and being scored on it.

Health IQ is both educational and fun. You can take quizzes on Health topics that interest you and if you get it wrong - then you've learned something new! It helps you approach healthy eating and living from an amateur perspective. Once you've done a couple you could be a health pro!

Finally, my favourite app of all is Duolingo. This teaches you basic language skills. I've only done Italian but I'm pretty far in and it is so simple to learn something so difficult! I am already fluent in English, French and Arabic, sometimes I don't even know what language I'm thinking in... But I learned those all when I was a baby so I figured it would be difficult to learn a new language. I wouldn't say I'm fluent in Italian now, but I can get through the levels with ease. I geniunely think I could make it through a trip to Italy with the help of this app. My brother has tried out Spanish, and made it through a two week trip across Europe - so I think I can do it too! There are many languages to test out so I recommend this app as well. :)

I'm going to link all the apps so if you're curious you can test them out. Some of them can be played online so if you don't have an iPhone you could try them anyways. I find all of these extremely helpful in my day-to-day life and hopefully you do too!
